ARP Update: Finding Similar Research
A new feature to help find similar research
A new feature has been added to Applied Research Platform that allows users to find similar research papers based on the content of a selected report. Users will now see a "Find similar" button at the bottom of each report page:

When clicked, the user will be redirected to a table with a list of related research reports, sorted by how similar they are to the original. For example, for the article: MARS: Defending Unmanned Aerial Vehicles From Attacks on Inertial Sensors with Model-based Anomaly Detection and Recovery, we get the following similar results (as of writing, with ~26,000 total reports in ARP).

How it works
Similar reports are found via sentence embedding and SBERT, a powerful method for capturing semantic and contextual similarity between texts. By converting each report into a multi-dimensional vector, we are able to measure distances between reports and calculate a "similarity score". We visualize the similarity in the table in an intuitive way using partially filled circles.
Increasing productivity
This feature empowers researchers, innovators, and investors to quickly discover related work, uncovering connections that might otherwise be missed. By surfacing similar research reports, users can efficiently explore relevant literature, identify emerging trends, and build upon existing knowledge. We hope that this will aid in accelerating the research process and informed decision-making across the scientific and business communities.
